AN UNFORGETTABLE EXPERIENCE !

Educational programs:
The educational programs of Explos-Nature have as a general objective to explore nature with students by observations and experiments in order to make them become aware of the importance to safeguard it. These programs are adapted to various types of customers: elementary school to university as well as the general public.

Topics:

The main theme of our programs, the marine environment of the St. Lawrence, allows teachers and students to approach various disciplines: history (main entrance of the continent, settlement of Québec and Canada), geography and geology (formation of the Canadian shield, the river and seas and the links between them), French (account of discoverers, tales and legends, poems, scientific reports), chemistry and physics (salinity, stratification and density of water), mathematics (surface, volume and flow of the St. Lawrence), astronomy (rotation of the Earth, the moon and the sun to explain the phenomenon of the tides), biology (the ecology of the fauna and flora of the St. Lawrence) as well as the arts (maquettes, drawings, theatre, improvisations). These disciplines are molten with the topics approached in our programs:

The supralittoral : This is the zone of the seashore that is uncovered by the tide from the St. Lawrence but encounters its effects. We discuss the adaptation of the plants on the seashore, the geological formation, the history, the marine and forest birds as well as the geography of the landscape and the main rivers.
The mediolittoral: This is the zone of the tides. We explore particular forms of life in this zone, the phenomenon of the tides and the chemical and physical constraints undergone by the fauna and flora.
The infralittoral: This is the zone of the seashore that is always covered by water. We discover the underwater and marine fauna, from the invertebrates to large mammals, the whales. We also examine the oceanography of the St. Lawrence and the constraints of deep-sea diving for humans.

OUR EDUCATIONNAL PROGRAMS

One day Laboratory

Since April 2004, Explos-Nature proposes a series of activities that are spread across one day between the walls of the wet laboratory of the House of the Sea located in Bergeronnes. To date, more than 250 students have had the chance to transform themselves into scientists for the duration of a few hours.

The sea on the road

This travelling program, in action since March 2000, makes it possible to diffuse activities associated with the marine environment of the St. Lawrence in elementary and high schools throughout Québec. Until now, this educational program made it possible for nearly 8000 young to come into contact with living organisms of the St. Lawrence while remaining in their classroom. The biologists of Explos-Nature come to deliver a fabulous adventure by the means of captivating activities requesting all of the five senses. Look into the belly of the St. Lawrence, taste the products of the sea, touch live animals, transform a student into a diver, become familiarized with mammals. Whatever the activities chosen, you will live a once in a lifetime experience that promotes learning and develops the feeling of belonging necessary to pose concrete gestures for the conservation and protection of the environment. An exceptional animation that will connect you forever to the St. Lawrence

The sea school

Since 1990, this program is addressed to schools, from elementary to university that want to follow a true training: to touch, taste, feel, see and understand the intimate life of the marine environment of the St. Lawrence. The school of the sea is a practical training course, two feet in nature, centered on direct observation, experimentation and scientific vulgarisation. The sites chosen for the various excursions offer a wide range of habitats that make it possible for the trainees to discover, identify and learn about a diversified variety of organisms and ecological principles. The training courses are offered in variable durations and animated by sympathetic and professional naturalists adapted to different types of customers. The months of May, June, September and October are reserved for groups from elementary and high schools, cegeps and universities.

Young Explos summer camps

The Young Explos summer camps were founded in 1955 by Mr. Léo Brassard. Since then, thousands of young people throughout Québec have been initiated to the natural sciences. The monitors are diplomed naturalists that accommodate and guide trainees that are gathered in groups of 5 or 6 people on the terrain. This camp offers to young people, between the ages of 10 and 17 years, avid of spaces and discoveries, the possibility of living an unforgettable experience on the seashore and sea. It enables them to benefit more from the world that surrounds them by understanding better the botany, ornithology, geology and marine biology from this corner of the fantastic Côte-Nord. The camps are offered from July to August, according to a variable schedule and are easily adjustable with one’s interests.
